People are so critical!!! The story itself is enough to make this location extra cool!!! At one time it was just a dirt road. They built the city around this location. I didn't get to stop bc I was in my big rig. But I plan on searching for a place to park her when I have more time and going see this corner again. I passed it not realizing this was the exact location!!! How freaking awesome!!! I hate that I didn't get to fully appreciate where I was. I will also visit the museums in the area as well! CAN'T WAIT!!!
The best-known of numerous sites claiming to be the Devil's Crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil for guitar prowess.
It's a decent spot for a photo op, but not much more. Proximity to Abe's makes it a must on a Mississippi history tour.
Note: my experience may be a one-off, but I would suggest using the buddy system, especially if you're an obvious tourist. I was waiting alone in my car when a panhandler came up and started beating on my passenger window. (It wasn't a tap; he was attempting to break it.) I'm not certain what my next move would have been; he ran as soon as other people pulled into the lot.
Today, the site is a busy intersection of two busy roads in Clarksdale. The monument is unremarkable.
This is either going to be a 5 star or 1 star experience for you, depending on how much you love the blues.
Very interesting story and song about Devil's Crossroads, not much to see at the sight, only a sign, no historical plaque.
